Answers about Lens Care
Are contact lenses difficult to care for?
No, and there is a variety of contact lenses that are easy to take care off, starting with daily disposables. 1•DAY ACUVUE® Brand contact lenses offer the healthiest, most convenient way to wear contacts. What can be easier than 1•DAY ACUVUE® TruEye® or 1•DAY ACUVUE® MOIST® lenses – you wear them for one day and then throw them away!
How should I clean my ACUVUE® lenses?
The best time to clean and disinfect reusable, soft contact lenses is immediately after you remove them. First place the lens in the clean dry palm of one hand. Then apply a few drops of a daily cleaning solution and use your little finger to rub the front and back surface of each lens gently. Rinse your lenses thoroughly with the solution and place into the lens case. Finally fill each chamber of the lens case with solution, close the lids and leave to soak until you have to change the storing solution (this will depend on which contact lens solution you are using – check the usage guide to see)
To clean your ACUVUE® reusable lenses, we recommend that you only use multipurpose maintenance solutions or peroxide-based products and neutralizers designed for soft contact lenses. Hydrogen peroxide systems may help wearers who are sensitive to the preservatives in multipurpose solutions. Make sure to wash your hands prior to cleaning your lenses.
Daily disposable contact lenses such as 1•DAY ACUVUE® MOIST® and 1•DAY ACUVUE® TruEye® lenses do not require cleaning, as they are only worn for one day, removed in the evening and replaced by a new lens the next day.
What solutions can I use to clean my ACUVUE® lenses?
Ask your optometrist about recommended lens care products. We recommend that only multipurpose or peroxide-based solutions and neutralizers designed for soft-contact lenses be used with our products for cleaning and disinfection. We do not recommend heat disinfection.
What type of solution are ACUVUE® lenses packaged in?
ACUVUE® lenses are packaged in a buffered, non-preserved, sterile saline solution (a product similar to tears).
A friend of mine puts her contact lens in her mouth to rewet it. Is this a good idea?
No, we do not recommend using saliva if your contact lens feels dry. Your mouth is not a sterile environment. If you need to rewet your lenses, use contact lens rewetting drops or sterile saline solution. Your optometrist will be able to recommend the best product for you and your ACUVUE® lenses.
